Outline

Firstly I will introduce briefly myself and my previous research experience in Italy and Japan. Then I will give a very basic introduction on what is a Scanning Near field Optical Microscope. I will state some advantages and disadvantages comparing the system to other SPMs like AFM and STM.
Also, I will give some details concerning some instrumental techniques to achieve better performances from a Near field system and I will briefly address the problem of the fabrication of the optical probe. Then I will introduce some research ideas in the field of life science that can be performed by Near field optical systems : analysis of the dynamic of live biosamples, study of the internal activities of neurons in culture, investigation of biological optical detectors (simple retina tissue) with two optical probes.
